January 1, 1834 - John Miller born
John Augustus Miller was born about 1834 in Heligoland. His parents were from Hamburg, Germany. Heligoland is a small archipelago in the North Sea. While it is now part of Germany, it was historically a part of Denmark, and from 1809-1890 was part of Britain. John’s parents went to Heligoland shortly before his birth so he could be a British citizen and avoid conscription into the German Army.
